Aaron Boone to Return as Yankees Manager for 10th Season

Aaron Boone will return for his 10th season as manager of the New York Yankees, a decision confirmed by a source, extending his tenure through 2027. The announcement comes after the Yankees were swept in the American League Division Series by the Tampa Bay Rays.

Boone, 53, has compiled a regular-season record of 790-565 and secured three division titles during his time with the Yankees. The team reached the World Series in 2024 but lost to the Dodgers. Despite these regular-season achievements, the ultimate goal of a championship has remained elusive.

This past season, Boone's leadership was tested amidst significant injuries to key players, including Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Max Fried, and Gerrit Cole, among others. Some within the organization considered this season Boone's finest managerial effort given the circumstances.

General Manager Brian Cashman, whose contract is also set to expire, is expected to remain with the team and continue working with Boone. Their shared objective will be to guide the Yankees to their 28th World Series title.

While Boone has maintained support from figures such as owner Hal Steinbrenner and star player Aaron Judge, there have been instances where Judge expressed frustration with Boone's public comments regarding injury comebacks. These moments have raised questions about the alignment between manager and star player.

Boone's 10th season will place him in a similar managerial longevity bracket to Joe Girardi, who managed the Yankees for 10 seasons before Boone, and Joe Torre, who led the team for 12 years.
