New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown exited his first game with the team on Wednesday due to an ankle injury. The three-time Pro Bowl selection left the field in the third quarter of the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks to undergo X-rays.
Brown was later listed as questionable before being ruled out before the start of the fourth quarter. The 29-year-old registered three receptions for 26 yards on four targets in his debut for New England following an offseason trade from the Philadelphia Eagles.
Shortly after halftime, Brown was unable to haul in a low third-down pass from quarterback Drake Maye. Seattle cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett landed awkwardly on the veteran receiver’s lower leg while attempting to break up the pass.
The Patriots acquired Brown in June from Philadelphia in exchange for a 2028 first-round draft pick and a 2027 fifth-round selection. Prior to joining New England, Brown had accumulated 524 career receptions for 8,029 yards and 56 touchdowns across seven seasons with the Tennessee Titans and the Eagles.
