A 911 dispatcher reported hearing a "loud bang" before TikTok influencer Sara Gilson, also known as Sara Duffey, was found dead alongside her estranged husband, Jeremiah Shawn Duffey, in what Owasso, Oklahoma, police are investigating as a murder-suicide. The dispatcher also reported hearing "screaming and crying" in the background during the call.
Authorities responded to a reported domestic violence incident on July 23 and found both individuals deceased. According to reports, a child inside the home called 911 and stated that their step-father had shot their mother.
Weeks prior to the incident, Gilson posted on TikTok accusing her husband of being a pedophile. In one video, captioned "Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon to be ex husband who I just found out is a pedophile," she detailed allegations against him.
Gilson had also recently filed an emergency protective order against Duffey. According to The Oklahoman, another woman filed a separate protective order against Duffey on the same day, alleging he had been seen "kissing and fondling" her 15-year-old daughter, who was a player on the youth basketball team he coached. The outlet reported that Duffey allegedly gave the girl money to remain silent.
Police stated that Duffey had faced similar accusations previously. A parent and child had reported him to Owasso Police on June 9, accusing him of touching a female child during a school event. These accusations were referred to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Sara Duffey's ex-husband, Lyle Landers, told People that he had urged her to leave Jeremiah Duffey. "She had been stuck in a relationship where domestic abuse seemed ‘OK’," Landers said. "I had begged her for five years to get away from him. I had offered to help her, in any way I could, to get away from him. But he seemed to have some sort of control over her, and she couldn’t seem to get away."
Landers added, "She was a wonderful mother and would die for her children. In fact, her trying to protect children is what ultimately led to her death."
