Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the accused mastermind of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, and three alleged co-conspirators are scheduled to stand trial beginning June 5, 2028, a military judge ruled Wednesday.
Lt. Col. Michael Schrama set the trial date, rejecting prosecutors' earlier request to commence proceedings in January 2027. Mohammed and the three other defendants have been detained at Guantánamo Bay since 2003.
The case stems from the 2001 attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people in the United States. The legal proceedings have faced significant delays over the years.
