7-Year-Old Girl Fatally Stabbed by Stranger in Chicago

A 7-year-old girl was fatally stabbed by a stranger in broad daylight on a Chicago street, according to reports.

Edimari Hernandez Chacon was attacked on the South Side of Chicago in the Chatham neighborhood shortly before noon on Saturday. Authorities stated that a woman, whom Edimari did not know, ran up behind her and stabbed her multiple times in the back. Surveillance footage captured the moment Edimari was walking with another person before the attack, followed by witnesses rushing to her aid.

Edimari was transported to a local children's hospital, where she was pronounced dead later that afternoon. The alleged attacker, whose identity has not been released, was apprehended by bystanders at the scene. She was taken into custody by police after receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained during the detention.

The motive behind the stabbing remains unclear.

Local residents expressed shock and grief over the incident. "I just don’t know what this world is coming to … for a 7-year-old girl like that to be getting stabbed," said resident Denesta Freeman. "I never thought it would come to this point. I never did. These kids nowadays are not getting to live their life."

Another woman, who preferred to remain anonymous, shared her distress as a mother, stating, "As a mom, I feel hurt! Because my daughter is the same age. I feel hurt! I feel like it was my child."

Alderman Michelle Harris, representing the affected neighborhood, issued a statement expressing her sorrow over the "senseless stabbing." She also commended the bystanders who intervened, stating that their actions "may have prevented further harm."

The Chicago Police Department has not yet released further details regarding the incident.
