San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has publicly criticized the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) on his Instagram story, accusing the union of "lying/withholding information from a player on behalf of the team alongside a certified agent."
Aiyuk's statement suggests a direct conflict with the NFLPA, potentially related to his ongoing contract dispute with the 49ers and his relationship with his former agent, Ryan Williams. This comes shortly after Aiyuk released a YouTube video calling out Williams, San Francisco general manager John Lynch, and head coach Kyle Shanahan.
In his Instagram story, Aiyuk stated, "Some players have no other place to go for information or help, and are relying on the union to help them continue advancing in their careers and lives!" He clarified that his message was not aimed at all union members but specifically at those involved in his situation.
The wide receiver's YouTube video, released prior to his social media posts, included strong accusations against Williams and Lynch. Aiyuk described them as "weird" and "predators," referencing an incident where he claimed Lynch visited his home unannounced. He also characterized Shanahan as having the "temperament of a f—— toddler."
Aiyuk has expressed that his relationship with the 49ers is beyond repair and has no intention of returning to the team facility in the near future. He has been vocal on social media throughout the offseason, expressing frustration and requesting a trade, despite not having been present at the team facility since the previous year.
Reports also indicate that a warrant was issued for Aiyuk's arrest on June 3, and he has been avoiding returning to California due to this warrant. Attempts to reach Williams for a statement have not yet yielded a response.
