49ers Secure Fourth Straight Win, Defeating Broncos 24-14 Amidst Heat and Injuries
Brock Purdy and the 49ers defense overcame early struggles and defensive injuries to maintain their undefeated season.

The San Francisco 49ers extended their undefeated streak to 4-0 with a 24-14 victory over the Denver Broncos on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium. The game, played in temperatures nearing 90 degrees, saw the 49ers overcome a sluggish start from quarterback Brock Purdy and significant defensive injuries to secure the win.
Purdy, who had been a strong MVP contender through the first three weeks, experienced an uncharacteristic slow start. A failed quarterback sneak on fourth-and-long resulted in a turnover on downs and appeared to affect Purdy, who was seen shaking his throwing arm. While he remained in the game, his accuracy faltered in the first half, completing only half of his initial 20 passes. This offensive inefficiency marked the first time the 49ers failed to score a touchdown before halftime in three games.
However, Purdy found his rhythm in the second half. After completing nine of his final 10 passes, including a nine-play, 74-yard touchdown drive, he sealed the victory with a 56-yard strike to tight end George Kittle. Despite the early struggles, the 49ers' offense managed to avoid sacks and turnovers against a formidable Broncos defense that had previously limited opponents like Patrick Mahomes. Purdy finished with a passer rating of 107.1, marking his fourth consecutive game with a rating above 100.
Wide receiver Mike Evans, despite being a game-time decision with a rib injury and wearing a flak jacket, contributed a team-high 76 yards on five catches. The most significant injury sustained by the 49ers was to fullback Kyle Juszczyk, who left the game with an unspecified knee injury after a hard hit.
The 49ers' defense, already dealing with the absence of Nick Bosa and other key players, also faced challenges during the game, including multiple trips to the injury tent for Fred Warner. Despite allowing the Broncos to score their first points in the first quarter this season and cutting the lead to 17-14 in the fourth quarter, the defense ultimately held firm. A key pass breakup by Malik Mustapha and adjustments throughout the game limited the Broncos to converting only three of their final nine third-down attempts.
Despite the offensive sputtering and defensive injuries, the 49ers demonstrated resilience. Coach Kyle Shanahan noted the efficiency of the running game and the offensive line's continued protection of Purdy. The victory sets the 49ers up for their next challenge in Seattle, having proven their ability to win even when not playing at their highest level.
