San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling will be sidelined for approximately 10 weeks following ankle surgery, head coach Kyle Shanahan announced Wednesday.
Shanahan stated during a press conference that Stribling underwent the procedure on his ankle, revealing a recovery timeline that is significantly longer than initially reported. Earlier, Stribling was expected to miss at least a month due to a deltoid sprain in his ankle.
While Shanahan expressed confidence that Stribling will return this season, the revised timeline indicates he will miss a substantial portion of the current season. The team intends to place Stribling on injured reserve, which will mandate him to miss the next four games. The move to injured reserve is expected in the coming days, though it has not yet been officially made.
The 49ers have experienced a string of significant injuries among their recent first-round draft picks. Stribling, along with Malik Mustapha and Ricky Pearsall, have all suffered notable injuries since being selected by the team in the first round over the last three NFL drafts.
