The San Francisco 49ers are making contingency plans for a possible extended absence of principal owner Jed York. The team is preparing for such a scenario as the NFL reviews York's recent arrest under its personal conduct policy.

York, 46, was arrested in Ohio last month after allegedly responding to an advertisement on a prostitution website and offering to pay a woman $160 for sex. The incident has triggered a league review that could result in a suspension.

General manager John Lynch stated that the organization is working to ensure preparedness for various outcomes. "Let's have conversations beforehand so that we know exactly where his wishes are," Lynch said on "The TK Show." "And you can't do that for everything because issues come up, like [the] trade deadline. You don’t know until you know, and there’s so many factors that go into that. But we’ll be prepared for everything because we’ve put in the work, we’ve put in the communication beforehand."

Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan have reportedly increased their communication with York, who has recently relocated to Ohio following a divorce filing. While York has not been present at training camp this summer, his operational involvement has been managed, and the team is accustomed to functioning without his day-to-day presence.

"If he’s not going to be here, Jed, we’ve got to talk on a regular basis," Lynch explained. "He knows that, we know that, we’ve done that. Now, to the regularity that we normally do, because conversations kind of come up organically, no, but it’s probably led to a lot more scheduled meetings where, in the past, it was more organic."

Lynch added, "Yesterday morning, [head coach] Kyle [Shanahan] and I were on a Zoom with Jed and had a great discussion about a variety of things. And so, that communication is critical, I think, to keep everybody on the same page. And Jed, he’s been a great sounding board over the years. He trusts us."

While 49ers personnel maintain that the situation has not negatively impacted the team's performance, the public perception of the franchise has been affected during the offseason.
