49ers Owner Jed York Accepts Six-Game Suspension, $500,000 Fine for Prostitution Arrest
York issues apology after NFL concludes investigation into his conduct.
San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York has accepted a six-game suspension and a $500,000 fine from the NFL following an investigation into his arrest for soliciting prostitution. York issued a statement Friday morning, acknowledging the league's decision and offering an apology.
"Today, the NFL concluded its review, and I accept its decision in full," York stated. "To my family, to the players, coaches, and employees of the San Francisco 49ers, to our fans and partners, I am deeply sorry. This was an inexcusable mistake and I take full responsibility. What I did does not reflect my values or the man I strive to be for my family."
York also expressed hope that his actions would serve as a lesson for his sons. "While I fell short of the model I want to set for my sons, I now hope to show them the importance of owning up to one’s failures, and that even our worst moments teach us to be better. Leading the 49ers is a privilege, and one I don’t take lightly. Your trust will have to be earned back over time, and I look forward to that work ahead."
The suspension will keep York sidelined through the 49ers' "Monday Night Football" game on October 19 against the Washington Commanders. He had already missed the team's first three games, which the league has counted toward his punishment.
The NFL's investigation stemmed from York's arrest earlier this year for allegedly attempting to pay $160 for sexual services in East Palestine, Ohio. He was initially charged with soliciting prostitution, but he pleaded no contest to two lesser charges. Reports indicate that York had moved from his home in Los Altos Hills, California, to his family's property in Youngstown, Ohio, after filing for divorce the day after Mother's Day.
