San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw publicly questioned the existence of Antarctica while speaking with reporters during the team's trip to Australia. The remarks came as the 49ers prepared for an NFL regular season opener against the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne.
When asked by a reporter what questions he had for Australians, Greenlaw responded by inquiring about the proximity to Antarctica and whether it snows significantly in Australia, leading him to ask, "So Antarctica, is it a lie?"
Upon being informed that the continent is real, Greenlaw asked if the reporters had personally visited Antarctica. When told they had not, he followed up, "So how do you know if it’s cold or not?"
Antarctica is approximately 1,939 miles from Australia. While the reporters present had not visited the continent, numerous individuals have traveled there. Greenlaw, who signed a one-year contract with the 49ers in the recent offseason, appeared to suggest a personal visit might be necessary for him to believe in its existence.
