The San Francisco 49ers' scheduled joint practice with the Tennessee Titans on August 11, two days before their preseason opener, is facing uncertainty due to a significant number of player injuries. Currently, 20 players are sidelined, representing 22.2% of the team's training camp roster.
This situation draws parallels to a previous instance where the 49ers canceled a 2024 joint practice with the New Orleans Saints when they had 23 players injured. However, assistant head coach Chris Foerster, who is currently leading the team while Kyle Shanahan recovers, indicated that the practice is still on track.
"We have injuries. We have dings, bumps and bruises, and guys are missing practices. It has yet to come up in anything I’ve heard," Foerster stated, according to The Athletic’s Matt Barrows and Vic Tafur. He added that with depth at every position, "you can practice."
Despite Foerster's comments, the ongoing rate of injuries raises questions about the practice's feasibility. The most recent addition to the injury report is All-Pro fullback Kyle Juszczyk, who is dealing with a broken finger. While this injury is not expected to impact his regular season availability, it will likely reduce his participation in preseason games.
The 49ers are scheduled to host the Titans at Levi’s Stadium for the joint practice before their preseason matchup.
