49ers Could Pursue Trade for Former Receiver Jauan Jennings Amid Injury Concerns

The San Francisco 49ers may be considering a trade for a familiar face at wide receiver as they navigate a challenging period marked by injuries. NFL insider Ian Rapoport suggested that Jauan Jennings, who previously played for the 49ers before signing with the Minnesota Vikings, could be a trade target.

Jennings, who spent his first five seasons with San Francisco, signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the Vikings this offseason. However, his role in Minnesota has been limited, with only two catches for nine yards recorded this season. In contrast, he had a productive 2026 season with the 49ers, accumulating 55 receptions for 643 yards and nine touchdowns.

"I would say a name that I’ve been wondering about is Jauan Jennings," Rapoport stated on "The Pat McAfee Show." "So he’s with the Minnesota Vikings, had like two catches. Obviously, came over from the 49ers. I expect his name to heat up a little bit over the next, probably, couple days and weeks."

This speculation comes as the 49ers are dealing with a significant injury to wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who reportedly suffered a “bad hamstring pull” and is expected to miss at least two weeks. The team's depth at the receiver position has been tested throughout the season due to a high number of injuries.

"Obviously, the 49ers lost Deebo [Samuel] for a couple weeks, too. So they make sense [for Jennings]," Rapoport added, highlighting the potential synergy.

Samuel's absence, coupled with the bye week following his expected recovery period, offers a timeline where he could potentially return after the team's break. However, the cumulative effect of injuries at wide receiver may prompt the 49ers' front office to explore external options.

The NFL trade deadline is set for November 10, providing the 49ers' management with nearly a month to evaluate their roster needs and decide whether to pursue a reunion with Jennings or other potential acquisitions.
