San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed the recent prostitution arrest of team owner Jed York, stating it is a personal matter and irrelevant to his players as the NFL season nears.

York, 46, was arrested in East Palestine, Ohio, on suspicion of engaging in prostitution after arranging to pay $140 for sex in a police sting operation. He pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools, receiving a one-day jail sentence credited as served, a $1,150 fine, and completion of an online course. His charge was amended from engaging in prostitution.

Shanahan acknowledged speaking with York in the wake of the arrest. "Obviously, it's a very tough situation… it's extremely fresh, it's a very, very personal situation," Shanahan said. "I got a lot of respect for Jed. I got a lot of respect for [his soon-to-be-ex-wife] Danielle. Their family does mean a lot to me. With it being this personal, I'm trying my very best to keep it that way."

When asked about York's potential step back from team operations, Shanahan indicated that York's involvement has been consistent, allowing football personnel to make football decisions. "It's been like that this summer anyways. It's the same as always. Jed is as good as it gets since I've been here in letting the football people make football decisions."

The NFL stated it is aware of the matter and will review it under the personal conduct policy. The 49ers organization released a statement saying, "As this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time."

This incident is the latest in a series of off-season challenges for the 49ers. Head coach Kyle Shanahan himself was involved in a car crash in July that resulted in significant injuries, including a concussion, broken ribs, a broken nose, a broken hand, and a laceration over his eye requiring more than 40 stitches. Shanahan stated the accident occurred when he reached for his phone while his Tesla was in autopilot mode. He was the only person hospitalized.

York, who co-owns other sports franchises including Leeds United and Rangers, is the son of former 49ers owners Denise DeBartolo York and John York. The family's involvement with the team dates back to the ownership of Denise DeBartolo's brother, Eddie DeBartolo, who faced his own legal issues related to a gambling fraud scandal in the late 1990s.

Jed York began his career with the 49ers in the early 2000s, becoming CEO in 2008 and principal owner in 2014. During his tenure, the team has achieved several NFC West titles and reached three Super Bowls, though they have not won the championship since 1994. The team also moved to Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara under his leadership.

The 49ers are scheduled to begin their NFL season against the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia.
