San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York was arrested in an alleged prostitution sting in East Palestine, Ohio, after responding to an online ad placed by law enforcement. The 46-year-old, who is worth an estimated $500 million, was apprehended on Sunday morning after reportedly attempting to pay a woman for sex.
York allegedly lured himself to the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community after responding to an advertisement on a prostitution website. According to a report from the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force, York messaged the undercover officer three times, initially using the alias "Joe." He inquired about pricing and availability, eventually agreeing to pay $160 for full service, with an additional $20 for unprotected sex.
Upon arrival at the trailer park, York was met by marked law enforcement units. He was found to be in possession of the $160, which was seized. A test of his iPhone confirmed it was used to arrange the illicit activity. At the time of his arrest, York was driving a rental car.
York was initially charged with engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools. Prosecutors later amended the prostitution charge to disorderly conduct. He pleaded no contest on Monday morning to both offenses, receiving a sentence of one day in jail, credited as served, and a $1,150 fine. He was also required to complete an online course. Records indicate his cellphone was returned, and the seized $160 was designated for the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force as part of the plea agreement. York was released after posting a $5,000 bond.
The Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community, where the incident occurred, offers monthly leases starting at $305 and advertises itself as a "clean, quiet, and affordable place to call home." However, residents have expressed concern that law enforcement sting operations, which have reportedly occurred in the area, could tarnish the community's reputation. Some residents noted that police have used the trailer park as a meeting point for such operations, with postings sometimes appearing on local Facebook groups to lure individuals.
Management for Wheat Hill MHP issued a statement on Facebook, suggesting the arrest was coincidental and that the Chief of Police for East Palestine stated York was not targeted at an address within the park itself. The statement expressed shock at the news and support for law enforcement efforts.
This incident unfolds while York is in the process of divorcing his wife, Danielle, having filed in May citing irreconcilable differences. The couple married in 2011 and share two sons, for whom they have agreed to joint legal and physical custody.
The NFL has stated it is aware of the matter and will review it under the league's personal conduct policy. The 49ers organization issued a brief statement, noting that as the legal matter has been resolved, they will not provide further comment.
York, son of Denise DeBartolo York and John York, took control of the 49ers in 2008, becoming CEO. He became the principal owner in 2024. During his tenure, the team has achieved multiple NFC West titles and appeared in three Super Bowls, though they have not won the championship since 1994. He also oversaw the construction of Levi's Stadium. York also holds co-ownership stakes in Premier League club Leeds United and Scottish club Rangers.
