3-Year-Old Soccer Player Left Traumatized After Police Called to Game

A 3-year-old boy in Winter Park, Florida, was left feeling "traumatized" after police were called to his youth soccer game over a dispute involving his strong performance on the field. The incident occurred on Saturday morning during a game organized by i9 Sports.

Video footage of the event shows the young player, identified as Nevada, scoring multiple goals before the situation escalated. Nevada's father, Don, could be heard in the video stating that police were called because his son was "too good."

The league director, Thomas Hayes, called 911 alleging a parent was being disruptive and calling him names. However, Nevada's mother, Martasia, told HuffPost that she believes her son was targeted throughout the season, as he plays in a league primarily for 5-year-olds. She claims that she witnessed league officials, coaches, and other parents conferring on how to prevent her son from playing so that other children might have more opportunities.

"He still wants to play soccer. He just doesn’t want to go back to that place. I don’t think that’s how he should be thinking, that as a 3-year-old he did something wrong," Martasia said of her son's emotional state. She added, "It’s heartbreaking because now Nevada’s saying he doesn’t wanna go over there. He’s scared that he did something wrong."

According to Martasia, she approached the group to defend her son, after which the police were summoned. Audio obtained by The Post from the 911 call revealed Hayes stating, "There is a parent here that’s really, really disruptive," and "I want to be done."

Two officers from the Winter Park Police Department responded to the scene. In a subsequent news release, police stated that the incident was a "civil matter" and not criminal. No arrests were made, and no individuals were trespassed from the property. The i9 Sports league has since refunded Nevada's family.
