A 15-year-old has been arrested in connection with a shooting at the Bite of Seattle food festival that killed three people and injured four others, including a toddler, Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson announced Monday. Police are still searching for a third suspect, while a second suspect died following the incident.
The unnamed teenager is being investigated for firearms violations and first-degree assault. Officials believe this individual opened fire into the crowd at the popular festival near the city's Space Needle on Sunday evening, according to a document filed in juvenile court. This filing indicated that investigators believe three suspects were involved.
Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes stated that authorities were looking into whether a second shooter was among those who died. Neither Barnes nor Mayor Wilson explicitly mentioned a third shooter during a press conference earlier in the day.
The shooting occurred around 6 p.m. local time on Sunday. The deceased victims have been identified as two men, ages 19 and 44, and a 56-year-old woman. A 2-year-old child was wounded and is reported to be in stable condition. Three other individuals, described as two men in their twenties and a 39-year-old woman, were treated and discharged from the hospital.
The arrested 15-year-old was taken to the Judge Patricia H Clark Children and Family Justice Center.
