15-Year-Old Arrested in Connection With Shooting Near FAMU

Tallahassee police announced Monday the arrest of a 15-year-old, identified as Anthony Rivers III, in connection with a shooting that occurred over the weekend near Florida A&M University. The incident left 12 people injured, including six children. Eleven of the injured sustained gunshot wounds.

Rivers faces 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent. State Attorney Jack Campbell stated that the juvenile will be prosecuted as an adult. Police made the arrest on Sunday.

Authorities believe the shooting stemmed from a dispute between individuals known to each other, with preliminary findings indicating a physical altercation preceded the violence. Detectives stated that none of the victims appear to have been the intended targets.

The incident occurred Saturday night near Perry and Manatee streets, just outside FAMU's Bragg Memorial Stadium. The victims ranged in age, with the youngest being 11 years old. At least three victims sustained serious injuries, including one in critical condition, while others were reported in stable condition. One individual, the grandmother of a victim, was injured while fleeing the scene.

As of Sunday morning, six victims remained hospitalized, with one in critical condition. Five others had been released. The investigation remains active, and police indicated that further arrests are possible.

Florida A&M University President Marva B. Johnson stated that while the shooting did not occur on campus, the university is providing support to affected members of the FAMU community.
