Fourteen concertgoers were hospitalized Friday night during a performance by electronic music duo The Chainsmokers at San Jose's Discovery Meadow. The San Jose Fire Department responded to reports of multiple patients requiring medical attention starting around 8:22 p.m., according to the New York Post.
Emergency services requested an Ambulance Task Force, two additional advanced life support fire units, and a Battalion Chief to manage the incident and allocate medical resources. A total of 14 ambulances were dispatched to the scene, with all patients transported to area hospitals. The San Jose Police Department stated that the hospitalizations were for a variety of reasons, including suspected alcohol intoxication and drug-related issues. Paramedics also provided treatment to some individuals at the park.
The concert, which ran from approximately 5 p.m. to 10:34 p.m., drew a large crowd. Social media posts from The Chainsmokers showed attendees filling the venue. Online accounts from concertgoers described seeing many people receiving medical attention and being escorted out of the event early.
