A 13-year-old girl identified as Bella called 911 for help shortly before 11:40 a.m. on Friday, despite having been shot multiple times, according to police and her family. The incident occurred in Lake Township, Michigan, where a gunman identified as Chad Hickman, 39, killed five people before dying in a wooded area. Bella is the sole survivor of the attack.
According to a Facebook post by David Everitt, who identified himself as Bella's grandfather, the girl sustained four gunshot wounds. She reportedly managed to reach a phone and alert authorities even as she witnessed the deaths of her mother and brother.
Law enforcement has officially identified the victims as a 45-year-old man, a 40-year-old woman, and a 16-year-old boy, without releasing their names. However, the Everitt family shared on social media that the deceased were Amanda Everitt, 40, and her son, 16-year-old Eric.
David Everitt posted on Facebook mourning the loss of his daughter and grandson, stating, "Amanda and her son eric went home to be with god and our granddaughter Bella is clinging to life in a Grand Rapids hospital." He also praised Bella's actions, writing, "prayers for Bella who while shot 4 times still managed to call 911 and identify the shooter. She is a hero."
