A 12-year-old girl died and three adults sustained injuries in a shooting that erupted from a parking dispute near a youth football event in West Baltimore.
A 12-year-old girl was killed and three adults were injured after a gunfight stemming from an argument over a parking spot near a youth football event in West Baltimore on Saturday night. The incident occurred at Leon Day Park during the Charm City Buccaneers homecoming game.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 6:15 p.m. and found the girl and a 25-year-old woman with gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a hospital, where the young girl succumbed to her injuries. The woman is reported to be in stable condition.
Two additional male victims, aged 23 and 28, were also shot and taken to the hospital. Their injuries are expected to be survivable.
According to the Baltimore Police Department, initial investigations suggest the victims were caught in the crossfire of a dispute that escalated into gunfire. Police are seeking two men in connection with the shooting.
Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley stated that the altercation began between two individuals and subsequently led to an exchange of gunfire. "And in the crossfire, a 12-year-old little girl who was probably down there watching football was shot and killed," Worley said, confirming police suspect the conflict originated over a parking disagreement.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott condemned the violence, calling it "disgusting, heartbreaking, and unacceptable." He pledged that city officials would pursue accountability for those responsible. Speaking at a news conference, Scott described the shooting as one of the most disturbing events he had witnessed, particularly given that it occurred near a youth football league aiming to provide positive engagement for young people.
A coach for the Charm City Buccaneers confirmed that the shooting began during the game.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to contact BPD homicide detectives at 410-396-2100.
