11-Year-Old Girl Found Dead in Worcestershire Park Identified as Miya Deamer-Jones
Police are investigating the 'unexplained' death of Miya Deamer-Jones, found in a park near Elmley Castle Cricket Club.
An 11-year-old girl whose body was discovered in a park in Worcestershire has been identified locally as Miya Deamer-Jones. West Mercia Police confirmed her death is being treated as unexplained and that inquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
Miya was reported missing around 11:20 p.m. on Thursday and was subsequently found deceased in a park near Elmley Castle Cricket Club. Her family has been informed and is being supported by specially trained officers.
Sunflowers have been placed on a bench near the park in memory of Miya, who is described by villagers as a happy child. Tributes from friends and neighbors express shock and grief over the tragedy.
"This is every parent's worst nightmare," said one local resident. Another described the village as a quiet and safe place where such an event was unexpected.
Miya, one of four sisters, lived with her mother and at least one sibling. It is understood she had been playing with a friend at home before her disappearance.
Local resident Laurence O'Shaughnessy reported hearing sirens late Thursday night but did not realize the gravity of the situation until the following morning. "It's frightening. It's all taped off by the cricket nets, which I think is where she was found," he said.
Miya was believed to attend Bredon Hill Academy, a middle school in the nearby village of Ashton under Hill. The school referred inquiries to Worcestershire County Council.
Chief Inspector Daniel Pilkington of West Mercia Police stated, "We know the death of a young girl will be deeply upsetting for the local community, and our thoughts remain with her family and friends at this time." He urged the public not to speculate about the circumstances of her death to avoid causing further distress to the family.
An increased police presence is expected in Elmley Castle as officers continue their investigation. Police are available to speak with any community members who have concerns.
Miya is believed to have lost her father to cancer three years ago. A tribute from a school friend mentioned missing her dearly and stated, "You will always be a part of me and a part of my heart."
