Peter Byers, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday, maintains an active lifestyle by walking a mile each day into his local town. Byers, a former Royal Navy and Royal Corps of Signals serviceman, attributes his longevity and well-being to consistent physical activity and a positive mindset. "It's a good life, and you've got to make the best of it," Byers stated. "Keep happy, keep walking."
Byers's active routine, which includes a daily mile-long walk, is a testament to his philosophy that age should not be a deterrent to leading a fulfilling life. He told his cardiology team at Castle Hill that age is merely a number for him, reflecting his vibrant and engaged approach to life. His past military career took him around the world, fostering a passion for activities like fishing in various international locations.
He shared that a card received for his 90th birthday offered advice he has since embraced: "keep breathing," which he found to be a practical and beneficial suggestion. Byers humorously adds that his walks into Pocklington town centre also serve to remind others that he is still very much alive.
Cardiology consultant Dr. Manish Ramlall noted that Mr. Byers is a very well man leading a very active life, reinforcing the idea that a patient's age does not need to impede medical treatment or their ability to remain vital.
