Young Investors Favor AI Over Traditional Media and Celebrities

Young investors are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence for financial advice, showing more trust in AI tools than in traditional media or celebrity endorsements, a study by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has revealed. The poll of individuals aged 18 to 40 found that 56 percent trust AI tools for investment information.

This contrasts with lower trust levels in other sources: 47 percent trust information from television and radio, 46 percent trust what they read in newspapers, and only 29 percent trust social media influencers. Many young investors anticipate an increased reliance on AI for financial research and decision-making in the coming year.

Despite their growing trust, nearly half of the respondents mistakenly believed that financial information generated by AI is subject to regulation. Lucy Castledine, director of consumer investments at the FCA, emphasized the potential benefits of AI in researching companies, clarifying financial jargon, and exploring investment options. However, she also advised investors to remain aware of their protection measures and to continue exercising their own judgment.
