X Platform Experiences Widespread Outage, Affecting Thousands Globally
Users reported issues with the app, feed, and website, while rival platforms saw an influx of complaints.
X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, experienced a significant outage on Wednesday, impacting thousands of users worldwide. Reports of disruption began shortly after 14:30 BST, with Down Detector registering over 11,800 user issues.
Users reported a variety of problems, with 50% experiencing difficulties with the mobile app, 29% with their feed or timeline, and 14% with the website. Hundreds of users migrated to rival platforms like Threads and Bluesky to report the issues and express their frustration.
While X has not yet issued a statement or explanation for the outage, the disruption may be linked to a broader Cloudflare incident. Cloudflare, a company providing web security and routing services, acknowledged investigating increased error rates and latency due to a fiber cut in Eastern North America. This incident, which began around 8:35 a.m. ET, affected numerous online services, including X, Zoom, Google, and Microsoft.
Cloudflare engineers worked to mitigate the impact, with the company providing updates on traffic engineering efforts. The outage on X followed a recent widespread disruption affecting Meta-owned platforms Instagram and Facebook, which also led to a surge in outage reports.
