Worker Safety Concerns Rise at Stargate AI Infrastructure Project

A significant artificial intelligence infrastructure project, known as Stargate, has been the site of worker safety concerns, including lawsuits alleging negligence and injuries, according to a TIME investigation. The project, a key component of a $500 billion AI infrastructure initiative, has faced scrutiny through an examination of government reports, court documents, 911 calls, and interviews with workers.

One lawsuit was filed in April 2026 by delivery driver Angelica Hernandez against DPR Construction. Court documents obtained by TIME detail an incident on October 7, 2025, when Hernandez was allegedly struck by a cement chute while delivering concrete to the Stargate site. The complaint states that DPR Construction permitted employees to operate in a manner that endangered individuals on the premises and failed to maintain a safe working environment for deliveries. Hernandez claims to have suffered injuries to her head, shoulder, neck, and wrist and paid for her own medical expenses.

In response to inquiries about worker safety, an Oracle spokesperson stated that the company's partners operate with a safety-first culture. "When incidents occur, they respond immediately and appropriately, which means emergency and offsite medical services are provided when needed," the spokesperson wrote in an email to TIME. "We will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our workers while driving one of the largest reindustrialization efforts in our country’s history."
