Vital Lyfe Access Offers Portable Solution for Creating Drinkable Water
The compact desalinator can convert seawater into potable water, aiming for ease of use for the average consumer.
Vital Lyfe Access has developed a portable reverse osmosis desalinator designed to make undrinkable water sources potable. The device, roughly the size of an ice cooler and weighing 25 pounds, can produce up to six gallons of drinking water per hour from seawater. Users can submerge a hose into a water source and activate the system to begin purification.
According to CEO and co-founder Jonathan Criss, the design prioritizes simplicity. "We design for Terry," Criss said, referring to his mother as an example of the intended user. "Terry's my mom. I love her to death, but she’s not the most sophisticated user."
The company plans to begin shipping the Vital Lyfe Access desalinator this fall. It was recognized by TIME as one of the best inventions of 2026.
