TIME and Statista Unveil 2026 List of Top Educational Technology Companies

TIME magazine, in collaboration with Statista, has released its third annual "World's Top EdTech Companies 2026" ranking, highlighting 500 companies that are leading the development and provision of educational technologies. This comprehensive study evaluates companies based on a dual approach of financial strength and industry impact.

The selection process involved an extensive analysis of approximately 6,500 companies. Statista employed desk research, online application forms, and partnerships with other data and market intelligence firms to gather and scrutinize the data. Each company was assessed on two primary dimensions, with scores from each contributing to an overall ranking.

Financial strength was evaluated by examining revenue, funding, and market capitalization. This data was sourced from publicly available materials such as annual reports and company websites, as well as through media monitoring and specialized databases. Company disclosures submitted through a dedicated online application accessible via the TIME website were also incorporated.

For the industry impact dimension, Statista partnered with The Upright Project and LexisNexis® Intellectual Property Solutions. This collaboration focused on assessing a company's holistic impact, including the alignment of its products and services with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the quantity and value of its intellectual property portfolio. Additionally, web traffic metrics were analyzed to gauge the relevance of the companies' offerings to their target audiences.

Companies were initially identified based on above-average performance in financial metrics within their respective regions. The field was then narrowed to include only those that demonstrated significant industry impact in addition to financial success. The final score was calculated with a 70% weighting for financial strength and a 30% weighting for impact score.

Alongside the main list, a "Rising Stars" ranking has been introduced. This supplementary list recognizes companies that submitted data via the online application and exhibited the highest revenue growth rates over the past three years. To qualify for "Rising Stars," companies had to be 10 years old or younger, report a minimum revenue of $1 million in 2024, and show a revenue growth rate exceeding 20% over the last three years.

TIME and Statista emphasized that the selection criteria and company evaluations were based on independent journalistic standards and performed by Statista. The ranking is not exhaustive and includes only companies that met the specified criteria based on available data and application submissions up to June 4th, 2026. The results are intended to be considered alongside other available company information.
