'Stuart Fails to Save the Universe' Brings 'Big Bang Theory' Cast Back to HBO Max
Several familiar faces from the original sitcom are set to appear in the new comedy focused on Stuart Bloom.
HBO Max is expanding its roster of sitcom-related programming with "Stuart Fails to Save the Universe," a new comedy that brings back several actors from the beloved "The Big Bang Theory." The series centers on Stuart Bloom, the owner of the local comic book store, portrayed by Kevin Sussman.
In "Stuart Fails to Save the Universe," Bloom accidentally creates a multiverse using a device developed by Sheldon and Leonard. He then embarks on a journey through this newly formed multiverse with a group of companions to reset the universe. The show is set to premiere tonight at 9 p.m. ET on HBO Max.
Joining Sussman in the new series are fellow "The Big Bang Theory" cast members. Lauren Lapkus reprises her role as Denise, who worked at Stuart's comic book store and developed a relationship with him in the original series. Although they start the new series as separated, their multiverse adventure may offer a chance to reconcile their relationship.
Brian Posehn returns as Bert Kibbler, a socially awkward Caltech geologist who had a recurring role in the original sitcom. In the new series, Bert is expected to play a significant role in Stuart's multiverse quest.
John Ross Bowie is back as Barry Kripke, a Caltech colleague who often had a competitive dynamic with Sheldon. Barry will join the multiverse journey, seeking opportunities for career advancement.
Additionally, Christine Baranski, known for her role as Sheldon's mother, Beverly Hofstadter, will make an appearance. Wil Wheaton, who played an exaggerated version of himself and served as an antagonist to Sheldon in earlier seasons of "The Big Bang Theory," is also slated to appear.
Other "Big Bang Theory" alumni joining the cast include Josh Brener, who previously played an employee at Stuart's comic book store and will now portray a new character named Trevor, and Joshua Malina, who played Dr. Siebert, the president of Caltech. It is currently unclear if Malina will be reprising his role or playing a different character in the multiverse setting.
