SpaceX Achieves Milestone With First Orbital Launch of Starship
The world's most powerful rocket successfully reached orbit during its 14th test flight, paving the way for future interplanetary missions.
SpaceX has successfully launched its Starship rocket into orbit for the first time, marking a significant achievement for the company's ambitious space exploration goals. This marks the 14th test flight of the rocket, which SpaceX describes as "the world's most powerful launch vehicle ever developed."
The Starship is designed to eventually carry crew and cargo to destinations including Earth orbit, the Moon, and Mars. Its ultimate aim is to be capable of transporting up to 100 people on long-duration, inter-planetary flights.
During this successful test flight, the rocket was programmed to make six orbits of Earth over a 10-hour period before splashing down in the Pacific Ocean, west of Chile. Previous Starship flights had been suborbital, meaning they reached space but did not achieve the necessary speed or duration to complete a full orbit around the Earth. Those earlier flights typically lasted about an hour.
