Samsung has announced a range of new products, including updated smartwatches, a new foldable phone, and its lightest-ever flip phone. Preorders for the devices are currently available, with shipments expected to begin on August 7.
New Smartwatches
The Galaxy Watch 9 features an all-day battery, a lightweight and durable design, and continuous activity and sleep tracking. The display is brighter than previous models, and it boasts improved battery life. Powered by the new Snapdragon Wear Elite platform, the Galaxy Watch 9 offers enhanced speed and efficiency for seamless health monitoring. Both the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 are equipped with advanced health-tracking features, such as an improved sleep apnea detection feature and a heart health score.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is designed for high performance, with a battery that Samsung states offers 35% more power than its predecessor. It includes a Trail Run feature to track elevation, climbing progress, and terrain impact, which is intended to reduce injury risk. The integrated Sweat Loss feature provides hydration guidance based on water loss. Samsung also plans to introduce an Ultra 2 Diving app later this year, offering advanced diving metrics like ascent and descent speed and safe dive limits.
Foldable Phones
The new Galaxy Fold 8 is positioned as an entry-level foldable phone, offering the foldable form factor at a lower price point. When closed, it features a 10:16 cover screen, and when unfolded, it reveals a 4:3 main display. The device incorporates a titanium-based build for increased durability. It also boasts 3,000 nits of brightness for improved visibility in sunny conditions and dual 50 MP cameras.
The Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra is presented as an upgrade for users who prefer foldable phones. This model includes a 200 MP main camera and enhanced Nightography for improved low-light photography. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, aiming to provide smooth multitasking and performance. The phone also features faster charging and a slimmer design compared to the previous generation.
Galaxy Z Flip
Samsung's latest Galaxy Z Flip is designed to evoke a classic flip phone experience. It features an updated Flex Window interface with increased app integration. The device includes a 50 MP camera, and its design allows users to take selfies using the external Flex Window screen for framing and previewing shots. Samsung describes this model as its lightest and slimmest flip phone to date, making it suitable for users seeking a compact smartphone without significant heft.
