Rocket Money Launches Rowan AI Assistant for Text-Based Financial Management
The new service aims to simplify personal finance by integrating with users' existing text messaging habits.
Rocket Money has introduced Rowan, an artificial intelligence-powered assistant designed to manage personal finances through text messages. This new service aims to provide users with a more accessible way to track spending, manage budgets, and handle financial tasks without needing to learn a new app interface.
Rowan operates as a feature within the Rocket Money ecosystem, not as a standalone application. It connects to users' finances and proactively sends weekly spending summaries, budget updates, and alerts for significant transactions or potential issues like low balances or price increases on recurring services. Users can also interact with Rowan via text to ask questions about their finances, categorize transactions, identify potentially cancellable subscriptions, and estimate safe spending limits.
Beyond providing insights, Rowan can initiate financial chores through text commands. These include starting subscription cancellation requests, beginning bill negotiation processes, or setting payment reminders. Unlike general-purpose AI assistants, Rowan is specifically designed to leverage Rocket Money's established services for cancellations and negotiations.
While Rowan can start processes like subscription cancellations or bill negotiations, these actions are not instantaneous and still require user attention to confirm completion. Rocket Money, which reports over 10 million members on its platform, backs the Rowan service.
Access to Rowan is included with the Rocket Money Premium+ subscription, priced at $15 per month. This tier encompasses all features of Rocket Money Premium, with Rowan as an added component. Rocket Money's standard Premium plan utilizes a pay-what-you-think-is-fair model, typically ranging from $7 to $14 per month, and is separate from Premium+. The basic version of the Rocket Money app is free to download but does not include Rowan's functionalities.
Users considering the upgrade are advised to evaluate their regular use of Rowan's proactive alerts, cancellation assistance, and spending insights. The service may also involve success-based fees for bill negotiation if Rocket Money successfully lowers a bill, so users should review the terms and conditions before initiating such requests. Rowan's integration into a commonly used communication tool is intended to make financial monitoring a more consistent habit by delivering information directly to users throughout their day.
