PlayStation Network Suffers Widespread Outage, Affecting Digital Game Access
Thousands of gamers globally reported inability to connect to the PlayStation Network, impacting access to digital titles.
The PlayStation Network experienced a significant outage on Tuesday, preventing thousands of gamers worldwide from accessing digital games and network features. The disruption began around the same time Amazon Web Services reported server issues, though AWS has since resolved its problems.
Gamers reported being unable to launch their digital titles or utilize online services on their PlayStation consoles. Sony's official status page acknowledged the widespread issues, stating that "all services are experiencing issues" and the company was "working to resolve the issue as soon as possible."
While some users reported eventually regaining online access, the outage has amplified concerns among some players regarding Sony's upcoming transition away from physical game discs. Beginning in January 2028, Sony will no longer release new games on disc, with physical copies to be replaced by digital codes. This shift has led to discussions online about the implications for players who rely on physical media or experience network disruptions.
