PlayStation Network Suffers Global Outage, Sony Investigates

Thousands of gamers globally are experiencing disruptions to the PlayStation Network, with Sony confirming that its services are currently down. The gaming giant announced the widespread outage on Friday afternoon, leaving players unable to sign in, manage accounts, stream games, or access the online store.

Downdetector began registering a surge in reported issues in the early afternoon, indicating that a significant number of users were unable to connect to the network. The network's status website stated that the company is working to resolve the issues as soon as possible but has not provided an estimated time for service restoration or a cause for the disruption.

Players have taken to social media platform X to express their frustration, reporting difficulties with logging in, loading games, and even shutting down their consoles. Some users voiced concerns about the impending shift to digital-only games, with one comment noting the irony of being unable to play digital titles while disc-based games remain accessible.

This incident follows a report of a pro-Iran hacking group, 313 Team, claiming responsibility for an alleged cyber-attack on Microsoft 365 services, including SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive, on Thursday. The group stated its targets are western systems that "actively used to serve the enemy" and cited retaliation for the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The PlayStation Network has experienced previous outages, including a more than 24-hour disruption in February of this year that affected thousands of users. Daily Mail has reached out to PlayStation for comment.
