Perez Hilton Placed on Involuntary Psychiatric Hold After Apparent Self-Harm Livestream
Law enforcement responded to the celebrity blogger's Miami residence after reports of self-harm during a TikTok broadcast.
Law enforcement was called to the Miami residence of celebrity blogger Perez Hilton on Tuesday evening after he appeared to engage in self-harm during a TikTok livestream, according to a statement from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to multiple calls reporting the incident and located Hilton's home. They confirmed he was alone inside, and a source close to the situation told Fox News Digital that Hilton was subsequently placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold under Florida's Baker Act. The source also stated that Hilton sustained "superficial cuts all over the body."
The Baker Act allows law enforcement, judges, and certain mental health professionals to initiate an involuntary evaluation for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis or demonstrating self-harm. Those placed under the act can be transported to a receiving facility for an evaluation that typically lasts up to 72 hours.
In a previous incident earlier this year, Hilton was hospitalized for 21 days due to a severe case of sepsis from flu complications. During that time, he developed an ulcer and stomach perforation after taking medication on an empty stomach, which required emergency surgery. He later shared in a video that he felt he had a spiritual awakening during this medical scare, stating that God had "presented himself to me" and changed him.
Hilton, born Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., gained prominence in the mid-2000s with his celebrity gossip website. He has since relocated to Miami with his mother and three children. He has previously spoken about how fatherhood has altered his priorities and has shared glimpses of his family life on social media.
In past statements following his sepsis hospitalization, Hilton apologized for past actions, expressing shame and regret for past behavior driven by a focus on views, attention, and money. He stated his intention to be better and do better, embracing a renewed sense of faith.
