‘Percy Jackson’ Season 3 Will Feature Changes, Cast Teases
Actors Walker Scobell and Aryan Simhadri hint at alterations to Rachel Elizabeth Dare's iconic book entrance and tease upcoming casting announcements for season three.
Season three of Disney+'s "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" is slated to premiere in November, with cast members teasing potential changes from the original book series. Actor Walker Scobell, who plays Percy Jackson, suggested that the character Rachel Elizabeth Dare might not have the same introduction in the show as she does in Rick Riordan's "The Titan's Curse," the third book in the series.
"Things change sometimes when you do an adaptation, and some things aren’t always in the same spot that you think they would be," Scobell told Decider at San Diego Comic-Con. Aryan Simhadri, who portrays Grover Underwood, added, "That sounds like a prophecy."
In Riordan's novel, Rachel Elizabeth Dare first appears at the Hoover Dam, where Percy nearly injures her. She is notable for being a mortal who can see through the magical "Mist" and recognize Percy's weapon, Riptide. This encounter serves as an early introduction to her significant role in later books.
Despite Scobell's comments about potential deviations, executive producers Dan Shotz and Craig Silverstein indicated that the third season aims for high fidelity to the source material. Shotz mentioned that adaptations are coordinated with Riordan to preserve his original vision. He also noted that the show will expand upon storylines, such as Annabeth's experiences after being kidnapped.
Producers also confirmed that casting for significant roles, including Paul Blofis, Sally Jackson's boyfriend, and Rachel Elizabeth Dare, has yet to be announced. "You are correct, there are a couple of announcements that have not been made," Silverstein stated. Shotz added that these are "significant roles" being deliberately withheld from public knowledge.
The series has already announced casting for several other characters, including Hera (Ming-Na Wen), Demeter (Jennifer Beals), Apollo (Hubert Smielecki), Artemis (Dafne Keen), Atlas (Holt McCallany), and Frederick Chase (Jesse L. Martin). The cast and producers also confirmed that the role of Hercules has been cast and will be featured in season three, alongside potential developments in Zoë Nightshade’s storyline. Further casting and character details are expected to be revealed closer to the season premiere on November 20.
