Nscale Reaffirms Commitment to UK AI Data Centre Amidst Microsoft Withdrawal

Tech firm Nscale has stated it remains committed to developing the United Kingdom's largest AI data centre in Loughton, Essex, valued at £2 billion. This comes after Microsoft, which had pledged to fund a supercomputer for the facility, withdrew its participation.

Nscale announced its plans for the pioneering facility last year. While Microsoft has ended its involvement in this specific project, a spokesperson for Nscale indicated that the company is exploring alternative power sources for the site. The firm also emphasized that its broader relationship with Microsoft remains strong, with ongoing collaborations on other international projects.

"We remain committed to both the Loughton project and the UK and we are exploring alternative power sources for the site, in addition to other expansion sites in the UK," Nscale said in a statement. "Our relationship with Microsoft remains strong and long-term."

Microsoft declined to comment on the development.
