Nike Unveils Air Zoom Hyperslide Recovery Slides With Heat and Vibration
The new slides, a collaboration with Hyperice, aim to enhance post-exercise recovery with targeted thermal and vibrational therapy.
Nike has introduced the Air Zoom Hyperslide, an innovative recovery slide designed to provide therapeutic benefits for athletes and individuals experiencing foot fatigue. The slides integrate heat and vibration technology to reduce tension, relax muscles, and support recovery after physical activity.
The core of the technology is a magnetically attached massage pod, developed in partnership with sports therapy company Hyperice. This pod offers three levels of vibration and three levels of heat, capable of reaching up to 47°C (117°F). The massage cycles last 15 minutes and can be controlled directly on the pod or via a companion app. The internal battery provides approximately one hour of use on a full charge.
Tobie Hatfield, Nike's senior director of athlete innovation, stated that the goal was to create a solution that immediately initiates the recovery process. "With the Nike Air Zoom Hyperslide, we wanted to create a solution that kickstarts recovery the moment you power it up — helping athletes feel more relaxed, restored and ready to take their performance to the next level," Hatfield said.
This launch marks the second collaboration between Nike and Hyperice. Their previous product, the Hyperboot, released in May of last year, was a higher-priced shoe at $899 (£674) that utilized compression and heat for recovery. The Hyperslide is positioned as a more accessible option for general consumers.
Anthony Katz, Founder of Hyperice, emphasized the increased accessibility of premium recovery tools. "With the Nike Air Zoom Hyperslide, we’re making premium recovery more accessible than ever," Katz commented.
Nike claims the Air Zoom Hyperslide combines the comfort of their standard slides with advanced recovery features. Liverpool F.C. captain and Nike athlete Virgil van Dijk noted the effectiveness of the combination: "The Hyperice heat and vibration help my feet recover as quickly as possible, while the Nike Air Zoom cushioning makes it feel incredibly comfortable."
The Nike Air Zoom Hyperslide is set to be available globally in select markets and in stores starting September 29. The retail price for a pair is $249 (£186).
Initial reactions on social media have shown a mix of enthusiasm and skepticism. Some users expressed excitement about the potential for post-activity relaxation and comfort, with comments suggesting they would be useful after long walks or strenuous exercise. However, others questioned the high price point and the practical need for charging footwear, with one user humorously remarking, "Now I have to remember to charge my slides."
