It has been 27 years since Nigella Lawson first appeared on screens, and as she takes on a new role on The Great British Bake Off, her appearance remains a topic of interest, with experts suggesting her youthful look is due to a combination of sun avoidance, a dedicated skincare routine, and a disinterest in fad diets or cosmetic interventions.

Lawson, 66, was announced as Prue Leith’s successor on the Channel 4 program in January. She recently attended the official launch event for the upcoming series, where she appeared radiant, drawing comparisons to her look when her first show, Nigella Bites, premiered in 1999.

While Lawson is known for her culinary skills, her complexion has also drawn attention. She has stated that she has 'no point to cosmetic work' and does not focus on restrictive diets, preferring to embrace high-fat foods. Her approach to skincare includes a strict avoidance of the sun, which she attributes to an allergy. "I'm also allergic to the sun so I don't go into the sun and that makes a difference," Lawson told The Mirror.

Skin experts confirm that avoiding the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays is a significant factor in maintaining youthful-looking skin, helping to prevent fine lines and sun damage. Some individuals experience photodermatitis, an immune system overreaction to sunlight that results in skin rashes.

Lawson’s nighttime routine reportedly involves a cleansing and skincare regimen followed by sleeping in a cool room. She has mentioned using a muslin cloth with a specific cleanser and Prickly Pear Seed Oil, followed by sleeping without central heating in her bedroom. Dermatologists note that dry skin can be exacerbated by low humidity, often a result of indoor heating.

In addition to skincare, Lawson has spoken about using silicone gloves for exfoliation. Regarding her figure and relationship with food, she has famously expressed a preference for enjoying meals rather than adhering to strict diets. She has also voiced her disapproval of weight loss drugs like Ozempic, stating her desire to help people view food as a source of pleasure rather than an enemy. "I take great pleasure in thinking about food all of the time," she told The Times.

Despite her indulgences, Lawson reported a weight loss from a UK size 16 to a size 12 in 2017, which she attributed to practicing yoga. She previously told Good Housekeeping magazine that yoga had helped her get in 'better shape' without focusing on dieting.

Beauty experts suggest that Lawson’s consistent hairstyle and natural makeup approach have contributed to her enduring appearance. Laura Kay, a beauty and makeup expert, noted that Lawson appears to use subtle techniques to enhance her features, such as defining her lips and brows, and potentially contouring. While her makeup may be more noticeable now than in her younger years, it retains a natural look.

Lawson has also commented on her public image, often downplaying the idea of being a sex symbol and describing her beauty routine as 'lazy.' She has shared anecdotes about her clumsiness in the kitchen, including burn marks on her arms, and has expressed a dislike for utensils being used for multiple food items. She has also stated that her suggestive on-screen persona was a result of television production and editing, rather than her own intention.
