New ‘Minions and Monsters’ Movie Hits Theaters, Streaming Release Details Emerge

The animated film "Minions and Monsters," the seventh movie in the overall Despicable Me franchise, is now playing exclusively in movie theaters nationwide. Directed by Pierre Coffin, who also voices the Minions, and co-written by Coffin and Brian Lynch, the film is the third in the Minions prequel series.

Set in 1920, "Minions and Monsters" predates the 2015 film "Minions" by nearly 50 years, depicting the Minions' efforts to create their own monster movie during the silent film era. The voice cast includes Coffin, Trey Parker, Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeff Bridges, Zoey Deutch, Bobby Moynihan, and Phil LaMarr.

Following its theatrical run, "Minions and Monsters" is expected to become available on Peacock, the NBCUniversal streaming platform, due to its status as a Universal Pictures release. While an exact streaming date has not been announced, Universal films typically arrive on Peacock about four months after their theatrical debut. If "Minions and Monsters" follows a similar pattern to other Universal releases, it could begin streaming on Peacock around early November 2026.

Additionally, the movie is anticipated to be available for digital purchase and rental on platforms like Prime Video. While the exact timeline for this is also unconfirmed, speculation suggests a digital release around early August 2026.

The film will not be available on Disney+ as it is not a Disney production. Future streaming on Netflix is also a possibility, potentially occurring approximately four months after its exclusive streaming window on Peacock, as part of a distribution agreement between Universal and Netflix for animated movies from Illumination and DreamWorks.

Peacock offers two subscription tiers: Premium with ads for $10.99 per month and Premium Plus ad-free for $16.99 per month. Annual plans are also available, offering a discount. Peacock Premium Plus can be subscribed to through Prime Video, which includes a seven-day free trial.

Amazon Prime, which includes Prime Video, costs $14.99 per month or $139 annually. A discounted Prime membership is available for young adults. For those seeking to watch "Minions and Monsters" immediately, attending a theatrical showing remains the only option.
