Meta has launched Muse, a personal artificial intelligence agent designed for individuals aged 18 and older, to assist with daily tasks and long-term objectives. The company is highlighting the agent's safety and privacy features, noting that Muse operates on a secure virtual machine that isolates both the AI and user data.

Muse is accessible through a dedicated app or via WhatsApp. It can manage a range of activities, from simple requests like sending emails or booking travel, to more complex endeavors such as developing a year-long fitness plan or assisting in setting up a new business. According to Meta, once a user shares a goal, Muse can create a personalized plan, coordinate resources, and autonomously advance the task by opening browsers, completing forms, and negotiating on the user's behalf.

This launch positions Muse as an evolution beyond traditional chatbots, which primarily answer questions or retrieve information. AI agents, like Muse, combine AI large language models with the ability to execute tasks without explicit step-by-step instructions, potentially handling entire processes autonomously.

Muse aligns with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's broader vision for widely accessible AI superintelligence. He previously described a future where individuals would have highly capable personal agents that understand their goals and preferences, working continuously to improve various aspects of their lives, including relationships, health, career, and finances. Zuckerberg suggested these agents could free up user time and enhance productivity.

Currently, Muse is available only within the United States.
