McMurtry Spéirling Pure Achieves 0-60 MPH in 1.5 Seconds, Claiming Title of Fastest Accelerating Production Car

McMurtry Automotive has unveiled the final production version of its Spéirling Pure, an electric hypercar engineered to accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 1.5 seconds. This blistering acceleration time positions the Spéirling Pure as the world's fastest accelerating production car.

The company, owned by Irish billionaire Sir David McMurtry and led by former Formula 1 engineer Thomas Yates, has spent a decade on research and development for the Spéirling. The production model features approximately 95% new components compared to its prototype, accumulating thousands of kilometers in testing.

Designed and hand-built in the Cotswolds, the Spéirling Pure offers F1-level performance, capable of generating 3g forces in corners and under braking, with a top speed of 190 mph. This performance is achieved through several key upgrades over the prototype, including an increased battery capacity to 100kWh, enhanced regenerative braking, new Helix drive motors with additional torque, and an upgraded gearbox.

MCMurtry's proprietary downforce-on-demand technology uses two high-speed fans to create significant downforce from a standstill, effectively suctioning the car to the road. The vehicle's sound has also been engineered to resemble a jet engine rather than a silent electric vehicle.

The exterior of the production car features new carbon fiber bodywork, a wider and longer wheelbase compared to the prototype, and a unique stance and proportions. Inside, the Spéirling Pure offers enhanced cabin space with more room for occupants, custom-molded lower seating, and a bespoke, fully adjustable racing-style steering wheel. A central screen displays key driving information such as power, state of charge, and temperatures.

Safety features for track use include indicators, hazard lights, brake lights, and main beam headlights. The electronic power steering system is designed with F1-style valving for lighter steering and increased driver feedback.

The Spéirling Pure is designed for track days and competitive events, with a full factory support program available. Charging the vehicle from 20% to 95% takes between 20 to 60 minutes, depending on ambient temperature and charger power. McMurtry has also developed a portable 100kW storage powerbank that can recharge the Spéirling Pure at any venue and can itself be charged from a conventional three-phased pit garage source.

The car is eligible for competition in events such as Global Time Attack in the US and European Attack Masters at the Nürburgring, as well as race-inspired events like GT1 Sports Club.

The Spéirling Pure will be displayed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 9-12, with its official public debut at The Quail in Monterey, California, on August 14. The vehicle is priced at £995,000 (approximately $1.3 million or €1.15 million), not including local taxes, shipping, and optional extras.
