London Faces Highest AI Job Displacement Risk Globally, Report Warns
Analysis from the OECD identifies London's workforce as the most vulnerable to AI-driven job losses among developed regions.
London is the most exposed region in the developed world to potential job losses resulting from artificial intelligence, with an estimated three in four jobs at risk, according to an analysis by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
The report ranks the capital city at the top for workforce exposure to AI, examining the proportion of jobs considered "highly exposed" to the technology either currently or in the near future.
The OECD's findings indicate a significant variation in AI exposure across different regions, ranging from approximately 16 percent to over 70 percent. Regions with a high concentration of employment in sectors such as technology, finance, and education, particularly those involving cognitive and non-routine tasks, are identified as having the greatest exposure.
This latest assessment highlights the transformative impact the rapid advancement of AI is expected to have on the global workforce. While some proponents anticipate that AI will stimulate economic growth and potentially create new employment opportunities, others point to companies already utilizing the technology to reduce their workforces.
