iPhone 18 Pro Buyers Report Discoloration Issues
Customers are complaining that the high-end iPhones are developing color fading around the camera lenses just weeks after purchase.
Some purchasers of Apple's latest iPhone 18 Pro are reporting significant discoloration on their devices, with the issue primarily appearing around the camera lenses. The problem seems to affect the Burgundy and Black models, with owners describing a noticeable fading or a "pinkish" hue around the camera housing.
Reports surfaced on social media platforms, where users shared images and experiences. One user noted, "I noticed that the area around my camera lenses looks slightly lighter/pinkish compared to the surrounding camera housing." They emphasized that the discoloration was not due to dirt, oil, or physical damage, and cleaning efforts had not resolved the issue.
Other customers corroborated these claims, with some stating that their phones arrived with the discoloration already present. "Mine looks exactly the same," lamented one user. "It was that way out of the box. I figured I would clean it off when I got home. The stains are not going away, no matter what I’ve done."
These issues have led some buyers to request refunds for the $1,199 device. Those who purchased the silver or pale blue "glacier" models have not reported similar color anomalies.
This is not the first time an iPhone model has faced criticism for color-related defects. The iPhone 17 Pro's Cosmic Orange model also experienced complaints of changing to pink within weeks of its release.
Sources suggest that the discoloration may be linked to the anodization process, which involves submerging the aluminum in an electrolytic bath to create a colored oxide layer. An improperly applied seal could potentially make the devices more susceptible to contaminants like water or skin oils, which might affect the pigment.
