A highly publicized exhibition match between a humanoid robot and an influencer has ignited discussions online, with viral footage showing the robot delivering a decisive blow. The bout, hosted by the tech firm REK, pitted TikTok personality Frankie Lapenna against a six-foot-tall robot modified by ENGINEAI, a company specializing in remote-controlled bot competitions.
During the match, which was billed as the first of its kind, Lapenna entered the ring wearing protective gear. Despite landing some initial punches, Lapenna's efforts appeared to have little effect on the bulky, Terminator-esque robot. The confrontation culminated when the robot delivered a series of powerful body kicks, ultimately knocking Lapenna to the canvas.
The robots used in the event, modified ENGINEAI T800 models, are capable of delivering 850 pounds of force, significantly more than the 650 pounds generated by an average adult. REK CEO Cix Live stated that Lapenna was actually declared the winner of this particular match after managing to unbalance the robot and remove its head, sustaining only a minor hand injury from punching metal.
This was not Lapenna's only encounter with the bots. He also fought a smaller Unitree G1 and another six-foot biped. However, according to Liv, Lapenna did not fare as well in the final fight against another robot.
The footage has drawn comparisons to science fiction, with some social media commenters referencing "The Terminator" franchise and "Black Mirror." Others questioned the implications of such technological advancements, with one commenter noting, "Why is technology trying to kill us? Because we’re teaching it how."
REK typically stages bouts between remote-controlled bots, but this event marked a departure into man-vs-machine combat. Lapenna is known for his Jackass-style stunts, which have included driving a motorbike into an office desk and provoking an angry bull.
