Google Cloud Outage Disrupts Banking, Mail, and Real Estate Services

A significant outage on Tuesday morning disrupted numerous websites and applications due to an issue with the Google Cloud service. The disruption, which began around 7:00 AM BST, primarily affected the London region, specifically the europe-west2 data center. Google confirmed its engineering team was investigating the problem.

According to Down Detector, a service that tracks outages, affected platforms included several banking applications such as Halifax, Lloyds Bank, and Revolut, alongside Royal Mail and the property listing site Rightmove. Revolut users reported being unable to open the app or initiate money transfers.

The digital banking app Revolut acknowledged the disruption on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "We are currently experiencing a service disruption affecting multiple services. We can confirm that all our customers’ money and data are safe." The company added that it had been working to resolve the issue since it was identified and apologized for any inconvenience.

While many services reported connection problems, it was not definitively confirmed that all issues were directly caused by the Google Cloud outage. Google's Cloud Status page indicated that multiple services were experiencing an issue in the affected region.
