Dyson has launched its latest oral hygiene innovation, the CameraJet toothbrush, priced at $500. The device, available for pre-order, incorporates an in-mouth camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a dedicated app to provide guidance on oral hygiene.

Dyson's new toothbrush utilizes a 100,000-pixel macro lens camera that employs "Gap Optical Targeting." This technology analyzes 28 images per second to identify gaps between teeth in real time. Within 100 microseconds of detecting a gap, a "precision jet" of mouthwash is deployed. Dyson states this jet, which emits mouthwash in a conical shape, is designed to remove more plaque while being gentler on gums and enamel compared to traditional methods, effectively eliminating the separate mouthwash step in oral care.

The CameraJet also offers WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, allowing users to view a real-time, close-up feed of their teeth on an accompanying app while brushing. While Dyson does not claim the device replaces flossing, it aims to assist individuals who may not floss as regularly as recommended.

According to the company, the "Anti-Gravity" tank system allows users to operate the toothbrush in any orientation, a feature particularly useful for reaching back teeth. This is facilitated by a pump and pressure chamber that ensures consistent mouthwash delivery. The device's basin holds enough mouthwash for a single session and can be refilled quickly while the brush charges.

The Dyson CameraJet is available for pre-order in Ceramic Ultra Blue and Ceramic Pink, with shipping set to begin September 8. Each purchase includes a refill dock, two brush heads, and a charging cable. The product comes with a two-year limited warranty.

Dyson also announced plans for a forthcoming non-foaming toothpaste designed to enhance the camera's visual clarity, and a low-foaming mouthwash for use with the jet. For optimal performance, users are currently advised to pair the device with an SLS-free, clear mouth rinse and SLS-free toothpaste.
