Drunk Elephant Enters Foundation Market with Peptide-Infused Serum

Drunk Elephant, a brand known for its skincare-focused approach, has introduced its inaugural foundation product, the Kamo Triple-Peptide Multi-Use Serum Foundation. This launch marks the brand's entry into the complexion makeup market, emphasizing a combination of skincare ingredients with a serum-like texture and adaptable coverage.

Mali Boykin, a celebrity makeup artist, described the Kamo foundation as offering both comfort and coverage, noting its "fluidity and slip of a skincare serum" while providing "true, buildable medium-to-full coverage." The versatility of the product allows for different application methods depending on desired finish. It can be mixed with moisturizer for a sheer tint or applied directly to the skin and built up for more coverage.

For an enhanced radiance, celebrity makeup artist Kasey Spickard suggests mixing Drunk Elephant's D-Bronzi Drops into a moisturizer before applying the serum foundation. This combination is said to impart a luminous, "lit-from-within" look and adds further peptide benefits.

Proper skincare preparation is also recommended, with users advised to start with Drunk Elephant's B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum, followed by Protini Polypeptide Cream, before applying the Kamo foundation once the skincare has settled. Boykin endorses this preparatory routine.

Application techniques can vary. Spickard prefers using fingertips, stating that the warmth and natural oils from hands help the formula blend seamlessly for a skin-like finish. Alternatively, using a brush is also effective, resulting in a lightweight, smooth, and flexible finish.

The Kamo foundation's formula includes amino-acid-encapsulated pigments, a triple-peptide complex, marula oil, green tea seed oil, and squalane. According to Spickard, these ingredients contribute to the formula's lightweight feel and enable even coverage, with peptides supporting skin firmness and elasticity.

In comparison to other products, the Kamo foundation offers more coverage than EltaMD's tinted SPF, which is favored for quick, sunscreen-focused routines. For more dramatic, full-coverage looks, Huda Beauty's Triclone Foundation is mentioned as an alternative. The Kamo foundation is positioned as sitting between these options, providing polish while maintaining a natural, skin-like appearance.

The Kamo Triple-Peptide Multi-Use Serum Foundation is the brand's first foray into foundation, aiming to integrate skincare benefits directly into a makeup product. This development comes after extensive testing of various Drunk Elephant products, with the foundation emerging as a notable addition to the brand's offerings.
