Denza Z9GT Electric Vehicle to Launch in UK for £105,000 With Five-Minute Charging Capability
BYD's luxury electric 'shooting brake' promises rapid charging and high performance, with deliveries expected by year-end.
The Denza Z9GT, an electric vehicle from Chinese manufacturer BYD, will be available in the UK for £105,000, with pre-orders opening and first deliveries anticipated before the close of 2026. This high-performance model marks Denza's debut in European and UK markets, showcasing advanced technology including rapid charging capabilities.
Utilizing BYD's second-generation Blade battery pack with a 122kWh capacity, the Z9GT can charge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes when connected to BYD's forthcoming 1,500kW 'Flash Chargers.' This charging speed allows for an estimated addition of 224 miles of range in the time it takes to make a brief stop. For comparison, current fast-charging technologies from other manufacturers, such as Tesla's 500kW Superchargers, require significantly longer to add a comparable range.
The Z9GT is described as a 'shooting brake,' a style of coupe-like estate car. Beyond its charging capabilities, the EV boasts substantial performance figures. It delivers 1,140 horsepower from a three-motor setup (one front, two rear), generating 1,210Nm of torque. This powertrain enables acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 167 mph.
With a fully charged battery, the Denza Z9GT is projected to have a range of 373 miles. The rapid charging technology allows for a charge from 10% to 97% in nine minutes, adding approximately 323 miles of range. Even in temperatures as low as -30 degrees Celsius, BYD claims the EV can recharge from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes.
While no compatible BYD Flash Chargers are currently operational in the UK, the company plans to deploy 300 of these 1,500kW chargers within the next 12 months as part of a larger global rollout, which includes 6,000 new locations worldwide. BYD aims to have 600 chargers in total across the UK.
In addition to the all-electric Z9GT, BYD will also offer a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant, the DM-i, with prices starting at £95,000. This hybrid model also features a three-motor electric system powered by a 63.82kWh battery, offering up to 126 miles of electric-only range. It includes a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine for extended travel, with a combined range of 500 miles when both fuel tank and battery are full. The PHEV variant produces 765 horsepower and 1,035Nm of torque, capable of accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds and reaching a top speed of 161 mph.
The quoted prices for the Z9GT reflect a high standard specification, but optional extras are available. These include digital side mirrors for £1,600 and 21-inch alloy wheels for £2,500. Paint finishes vary in cost, with matte options such as Matte Copper and Matte Shadow Black priced at £4,500.
BYD operates a substantial network of flash-charging stations in China, with approximately 6,700 to 7,000 currently active. The company intends to expand this infrastructure to 20,000 stations by the end of 2026.
