Databricks Expands Manhattan Presence, Bets on AI Development in New York
The AI company is doubling its office space at 5 Bryant Park and plans to increase its engineering and research teams in the city.
AI company Databricks is significantly expanding its presence in Manhattan, doubling its office footprint at 5 Bryant Park to 120,000 square feet across five floors. The expansion signals the company's commitment to growing its engineering and research headcounts in New York City.
Databricks' vice-president of engineering in the city, Tasso Argyros, stated in a corporate blog post that the company "made a bet" earlier this year that "world-class AI would be built in Manhattan." He added, "Today, that bet is paying off."
Argyros highlighted New York's position as a central hub for various key industries. "New York is the global nerve center for financial services, media, healthcare, and retail," he wrote. "These companies are where AI gets shaped in the real world, and where the AI rubber meets the industry road."
He also pointed to the city's "talent-rich ecosystem" as a significant factor. "We’ve seen firsthand that top new graduates increasingly want to build their careers here, and Databricks gives them the opportunity to work on problems at the frontier of data and AI without leaving the city," Argyros explained. The company plans to leverage this talent pool to enhance its engineering and research capabilities within the city.
